The Gold Ball Draw launched on September 14, 2022. A cycle starts with 30 balls (29 white + 1 gold) and ends when the gold ball is drawn — the shorter the cycle, the smaller the jackpot won; a full 30-draw cycle would pay the maximum $68 million.
How the Gold Ball Draw works
Every Lotto 6/49 ticket automatically receives a unique 10-digit Gold Ball number. On each draw night, one number is drawn and is guaranteed to win. The machine starts a cycle with 29 white balls and 1 gold ball: if a white ball comes out, the winner receives $1 million and the ball is removed. If the gold ball comes out, the winner takes the entire Gold Ball jackpot — it starts at $10 million and grows by $2 million every draw until won (up to $68 million if the gold ball is the last one left).
